● up to置于数词、名词之前。
△ 表示“达到……数量”。
1）Up to ten people can sleep in thistent.
这个帐篷至多能睡十人。
2）Icantakeuptofourpeopleinmycar.
我的汽车最多能坐四个人.
3）Theprojectwillcreateupto40newjobs.
这项工程将提供40个新的工作岗位。
4）The Mexucan minority in the southwestern part of the UnitedStates numbers

△表示“到某处”，“到某地方”、“某位置”。

● up to与动词搭配，构成 three-word verb phause。

可说 feel up to。up to后面接名词，动名词或代词。
1）I’m afraid that he is not up to the job you have assignedto him.
恐怕他你不能胜任你分配给他那份工作。
2）She is still sick and isn’t up to seeing visitorsyet.
她仍病着，不能见客。
3）My German isn't up to translating that letter.
我的德语还不行,翻译不了那封信。
4）Doyou think he is up to doing it alone?
你认为他单独能做好这件事吗？
5）I wish I could come, but I really don't feelup to it.

△表示“该由某人来定”。

● 用于up tosb. to do sth 结构（置于系动词 be之后）
△表示“应由某人做某事”，或“某人有责任或义务做某事”。

●用于习语uptotheireyes/ eyes/ earrs/ eysballs/neces/
in…，表示有大量的工作、事务要做，或表示深深陷入（deeply
involved”）债务、麻烦等。
1）I’m afraid we will have to be up to ournecks in work thismorning.
今天上午恐怕我们要达忙得不可开交。
2）I am up to my ears in things at hand! Ican't take on any more newjob.
我手头的事已忙得我四脚朝天，我不能再接受新工作了。
