这两个名词都是“假设”的意思。
assumption指主观上对具体事物的“假设”、“推测”。
1)Your assumption that yourhistory teacher gives you low marks because she
dislikes you isunjustified.
你的历史老师因为她不喜欢你给你低分,你这种假设是没有理由的。
2)Contrary to the popular assumption, the pricein the market does not drop
but rather risea bit.
与普遍的猜测相反,市场的价格没有降而是上升了一点。
3)I believe that it is a fairly correctassumption based on past experience.
我认为这是一个根据之前的经验建立在一个相对正确的假设。
4)Underlying these narratives was anassumption that damage compensation can
be reduced by riskexposure.
这些说法乃建立在一个假设上,即风险承担可以减轻损失赔偿。
hypothesis指对理论、学说方面的假设、推测,有待作进一步检验或证实的
假设。
1)A scientific hypothesiscan only be confirmed by indisputable facts, i.e.
by empiricalevidence.
一个科学假说要经过无可能辨驳事实的证实,即经过践实的证据证实。
2)There are a number ofhypotheses proposed to speculate about the originof
the universe.
有一些假设提出来推测宇宙的起源。
3)We have no substantialevidence to support this hypothesis.
我们缺少事实根据来支持这种假说。
4)The idea that continents broke and driftapart is known as the hypothesis
of continental drift.
认为大陆曾经分裂并漂离的想法叫大陆漂移假说。
