【Model answer】
Somepeople prefer to spend their lives doing the same things andavoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always agood thing. Recently, there has arisen a heated debate over therelative importance of job satisfaction and job security, with somepeople claiming that job satisfaction is an important element ofindividual wellbeing becausemost people spend amajor part of their adult life at work while others contending thata permanent job contributes to jobsecurity.
Those who believe they can achieve some securityby doing the same, familiar jobs are living in denial. Even whenpeople believe they are resisting change themselves, they cannotstop the world around them from changing. Sooner or later they willfind that the familiar jobs no longer exist, or thatthe‘safe’patterns of behavior are nolonger appropriate. This is because the pace of change in the lifeof human beings has increased beyond our wildest expectation overthe last half century. This has been driven by technology andscientific breakthroughs that are changing the whole way we viewthe world on an almost daily basis. This means that change, including that in the job market, is not always a personal option, but an inescapable fact of life, and we need to constantly adapt tokeep pace with it.
By contrast, many employees change jobs frequentlyto get greater degree of job satisfaction, but they fail to realizethat job hopping does not promise them with more jobsatisfaction.Firstly, when a person does not feelthat they are doing valued work or there is no positive feedbackfrom superiors in the new job, he or she might be discouraged andfeel that the new job is not worth doing anymore.Secondly, if job hopping does not improve ordevelop their skills, then there will be no sense of progressionand purpose that rewards a worker. Besides, frequent job hoppers, more often than not, are lack ofa sense ofresponsibility for and loyalty to a team, which means they alwaysfind it difficult to develop a strong sense of belonging to a teamor a working community, making it difficult for them to enjoy theirworking lives.
Thus, it is too arbitrary to say whether it isgood or bad to stick to a life long job. But personally, I think itwould be better for employees if they could make adjustments intheir career paths according to the social and economic conditions, for this would make it easier for them to adapt to the change whichis unavoidable.

However, reaching the conclusion that change is inevitableis not the same as assuming that ‘change is always for the better’.Unfortunately, it is not always the case that new things arepromoted because they have good impacts for the majority of people.A lot of innovations are made with the aim of making money for afew. This is because it is the rich and powerful people in oursociety who are able to impose changes (such as in workingconditions or property developments) that are in their owninterests.
In conclusion, I would say that change can be stimulating and energizing forindividuals when they pursue it themselves, but that all change, including that which is imposed on people, does not necessarily have goodoutcomes.(260 words)

As most people spend a major part of their adultlife at work, job satisfaction is an important element ofindividual wellbeing.
What factors contribute to jobsatisfaction?
How realistic is the expectation of jobsatisfaction for all workers?
Model answer
Nowadays many adults have full-time jobs and the proportionof their lives spent doing such jobs is very high. So feeling aboutone’s job must reflect how an individual feels about his or herlife as a whole, andbecause of this, job satisfaction is indeed very important for thewellbeing of that person.
Employees get jobsatisfaction in a number of ways. Firstly, a person needs to feelthat they are doing valued work, so positive feedback fromsuperiors is very important in this respect. A sense of fulfillmentis also encouraged if a worker feels the job is worth doing becauseit contributes to the society or the economy as a whole. Secondly, when someone feels they are improving ordeveloping their skills through training opportunities, forexample, then there is a sense of progression and purpose thatrewards a worker. The sense of belonging to a team or a workingcommunity alsocontributes to job satisfaction because colleagues help each otherto enjoy their working lives. Satisfaction is also increasedby a sense of responsibility for and loyalty to a team.
Of course not everyoneenjoys their work. Hard economicrealities mean that many people have little choice in the kind ofjob they can get. In some cases an employee is working in a jobthat suits neither their skills nor their personality. Some jobsare repetitive and boring, and labor relations may be poor and leadto resentment and insecurity rather than to jobsatisfaction.
However, even though it is unlikely that all workers dofeel happy in their work, I think it is not unrealistic to promotemore job satisfaction in any job. If the factors identified aboveare implemented, then any job canbe improved and more workers can feelgreater degrees of jobsatisfaction.(302 words)
