perplex、bewilder用法辨析

confuse“混淆”、“被搞糊涂”,指在思想上、内容上被搞糊涂、搞迷糊。名词为
confusion. 动词短语 mix up 也含 confuse 的意思。
1) The police arrested the wrong man mainlybecause they confused the names
they had been given by thewitness.
警察逮错了人,主要原因是他们混淆了证人提供给他们的名字。
2)Words with similar meaning and similar forms are liable to beconfused.
意义相似的字和形式相似的字容易混淆。
3)Don' t confuse Austria withAustralia.
不要把Austria(奥地利)跟Australia(澳大利亚)弄混淆了。

puzzle“困惑”“不解”,普通用词,泛指对某事物或现象感到困惑,对问题苦思不得
其解。

perplex“困惑”、“迷惑”、“费解”, 侧重指某事物或现象复杂难以理解,因不知
道如何处置而感到困惑,焦虑不安。

这个奇怪的现象半个多世纪来一直使科学家们感到好奇和困惑。
2)When new math was introduced into schools, many parents wereperplexed by
it.
学校开设新的数学课时,许多家长对此感到迷惑。

即便是知识最渊博的人也会被这样的问题难住。
bewilder“困惑”、“迷惑”, 侧重于“迷茫”、“被难住”的意思。指事物或现象使
人的大脑陷入迷糊状态,不能清醒进行思考和理解,表现为心理和智力的紊乱,语气较强。

这个纵横字谜的提示完全把我弄糊涂了。
2)The motorist was bewildered by the conflicting road signsand had to ask
forinformation from apoliceman.
摩托车手被自相矛盾的马标搞糊涂了,只好向一个警察问询。
