这组动词都可表示“分类”的意思。
divide “分类”,把事物按一定的规律或标准分成类别，与介词into连用。多
见用被动结构 be divided into，表示“……被分成……”。
1）We will divide the studentsinto six groups.
我们将把学生分成六组。
2）Garden crops may be conveniently divided intofruits, flowers and vegetables.
园艺作物大致可以分成水果、花卉和蔬菜三大类。
3）The stomachcanbe dividedintofundus, body, and antrum.
胃可分为底部，体部和窦部。
4）The rocket shipis dividedintotwo parts, the payload part and thefuel-
exhaust part.
把火箭飞行器分为两部分：有效负载部分和燃料排出部分。
classify “把…分类”、“把…归类”，用法比 divide 正式，使用广泛。与divide 一样，
可与介词 into 连用。classify还可与 as 连用，其后接名词或形容词。

邮局里的人员将信件按寄送地点分类。
2）The sofeware can analyze digital images, including video, andrecognise and
classifyfacial expressions.

sophisticated investors.

fallinto 也可以表示“分类”，相当于 bedivided into或 be classified
into。只用主动语态。

changes.
Allchanges of matter are divided / classified into two broadclasses:
physical and chemical changes.
所有物质变化分成二大类：物理变化和化学变化。
2）Progamminglauguages fall into two major categories: low-levelassembly
languages and high-level assembly languages:
程序设计语言主要分成两类：低级汇编语言和高级汇编语言。
3）Citizens fallinto three categories: persons with full fapacity forcivil

categorize“把…归类”、“把…分门别类”，用法同classify，多用于书面
语言。
1）Each type ofmolecule has a unique M.W. and thus we cancategorize them by

2）Thestratification of jade varies and hardtocategorizewith onlyone
