Franklinwasnotinfavorablegrowthenvironment,anditshouldbearelativelyplainappearance.In1706hewasborninNorthAmerica,thehomeTop15of17children.HisFatherisinvolvedinwaxandsoapasasmallbusinessman,Franklinenteredtheschoolforabouttwoyearsbeforedroppingoutofschoolbecauseoffamilydistress.Thenhewenttoworkasanapprenticeinhisbrother’sprintingshop,theapprenticedayswasverydifficult,buthedidagooduseoftheapprenticeshipleisuretimetostudyhard,andreadalotofbooksinpolitics,science,historyandliterature.HewasalsoproficientintheuseofFrench,Italian,SpanishandLatinbyhimself.
In1726Franklinmanagesaprintingfactory,itwasagreatsuccesswhichcreatedalegendoftheAmericandream,andheprintedahugeimpact"Pennsylvania".Heinventedthelightningrod,dual-purposeglasses,newstoveandnewlights.HepioneeredtheNorthAmericancoloniesthesloganthatis"notjoinarethedeath"anddraftedoutthedraftingof"DeclarationofIndependence"publishedin1771whichchangedthefateofcountlesspeople,andthisbookgaveadescriptionofitsprocessofgrowthandexhortedthepeopletobepositive.
therearealotofProverbsinthisbookthatFranklinfeltinhislife,readingthisbookisnotonlytofeelthesentiment,butalsotocombinetheirtrainingandhumanityandthentoimproveourselves,thebookdescribeseachchapterareatrueportrayalofhislifeandtellushowtogetalltheperceptionwhichinspiredmeverymuch
Inhisview,readingisthekeytosuccess.Bookisinvaluablehegreatestjoy.Booksgiveuswisdom,strengthenourdeterminationandletushavethewisdomofthetripofourlife.
Franklinattachesgreatimportancetohisownvirtue.Therefore,heproposedto13requirementsforhimselfnamely:control,quiet,orderlylife,determination,frugality,diligence,sincerity,justice,moderation,cleanliness,tranquility,chastityandhumility.Hehasbeentryingtodothat,thoughhecannotcompletelymeettherequirements,buthewaspersistent.Thepeoplewhocanmeetthe13requirementscanbecalled"saints"ofthefactthatpeoplearerarelyperfect,butitcanpursuesuchaperfectpeopleintheUnitedStatesandGermanywhohaveachievedgreatsuccess.Mygoalistocultivatethesevirtuesinhimself,soIthinkitisbestnottotryallatonce,Ithinkitisverydifficult,orinaperiodoftimefocusedononethingforthegood.Iwillcultivatethisvirtueintohabit,andtheninanotherculture.SoIarrangedforthevirtuesofmoderationtrainingatfirst,becauseitneedstostaycalmandthinkclearly.Thiscool-headedandclearthinkingisnecessary;theonlywaytoalwaysbevigilantistoresisttheinertiaofoldhabitsandcurbthetemptation.Ifwehavetheexcellencewecangetotherexcellencemucheasierinexchange.
Alsoseeninthedebate,Franklinwasnothumblewhenhewasyoung,Ioftenmakethatmistake,whenthereisnoneedtooverwhelmpeoplewithverystrongtone,althoughatthetimeitcouldhavebroughttheirownpleasure,butweneedtounderstandotherpeople'sfeelings.
FranklinwasreveredasthefatherofAmericaforhisimpressiveimagethatcanmaintainafrugallifestyleofworkforthepublicwelfareandmakeimmortalcontributions,comparedtomyownandthemajorityofpeoplewecanknewhowimpetuousweare.
Ihopepeoplewillneed:reticent,modest,frugal,moreimportanceinthefuturetoremovethesebadhabits,thosethingsmaybeofgreathelptoourgrowth.What’smore,Ithinkitisnecessaryforeveryonetobythisbook,whichcanhaveabetterunderstandingofeducation,publicutilities,aswellasahumancity,countryeffects.
BenjaminFranklinoncesaidthissentence:"Inmyview,thethingscanbringhappinesstomankindisnotsomuchthegreatgoldenlucky,mightaswellsayistheconvenienceallthetimearound."Ithinkthesewordswereveryinspiringwords,notonlythoseraregoodfortune,whileignoringthelittlethingsaround;butalsothissentenceisalsoverygoodexplainforFranklin'sinventionofthosewhobenefitmankindandthereasonforhebecameainventor.
Franklincanmakegreatsuccessinsomanyareaswhichhaveahugeimpactontheworldaffairs,shouldbelargelydependentonhishabits,verysorryIcouldnotseehisbiographylaterlife,perhapshe'smoreinterestedinsomeofmylaterlife,infact,peopleoftenliketoseeabrilliantside.
AfterreadingFranklin'sautobiography,adeepsenseIreceivedisthatpeoplecannotbeconqueredbyinertia,cannotbetheoriginalself-restraint.Tomoveforwardtowhatweshouldaimat.
