Host: Welcome to Neworiental VisionOverseas. It is such an honor to have you here.

Thank you.

Host: We have a lot of students andparents who would like to know more about you university MorrisCampus, so would you like to tell us more about your campus.

Thank you and me too. Thank you for theinvitation to talk to your students and parents.

Morris is probably not very well known, frankly, but University of Minnesota is.

And we are one of the several campusesthat is apart of the University of Minnesota.

So what’s really distinguishes us from thecampuses that most students know about, and their parents is theTwin Cities campus is the one most students know about.

What’s really distinguishes our campus isits size and its orientation towards undergraduate education.

I think those are the two bigdifferences.

We are very small. There are 1600 studentsenrolled at any point in time.

Students will come to Morris and expect tobe in small classes of 10 to 15 students.

We taught by faculty, not by graduatestudents.

And we have, our orientation is onlytowards undergraduate education, so we don’t have faculty orimmersed in graduate education.

We are focusing all of our energies on ourundergraduate students, and we are located in a small town.

which is quite different than beinglocated in a metropolitan area like Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Which allow our students and particularlyinternational students become more immerse in US culture and spendtime with American students and American families in a smalltown.

Host: How about the transportation? Is itconvenient to travel around the town?

It’s so easy to get around Morris. Morrisis a very small town. Most our students live on campus.

The first two years they are there and thenext two years, half of them move off the campus into apartmentsand houses they will share with other students but not longer than10 or 15 minutes walk.

Host: That’s very convenient.

That’s very convenient.

Bicycling is very popular here, in thegood weather month of the year, walking and we have our owntransport services in Morris which take you from door todoor.

Host: How about the study environment inyour campus?

I think that’s really anothercharacteristic being in Morris for education is that the studentsget to really focus on their school work. They are not destructedwith a lot of other things that are going on around.

And we recognize that on our campus.Amazing set of opportunity for students get engaged with oneanother, clubs, student organizations and activities at campus, student government.

There are basically every night in a week, they have something to do on the campus.

It feels very much like it’s owncommunity.

It feels very pleasant, very tighteningcommunity on campus and with local town people.

Host: That’s great.

Guest: Wonderful.
非常好

Host: Another question. I think there is atrend that American universities have increased the proportion ofinternational students. How do you interpret this trend?

I see it as recognition that we are allpart of global community.

We need to bring people from differentculture, different perspectives, different ways of life intoAmerica education.

as well as sharing American style ofeducation and culture with other people across the world. We allknow the economy is globalized.

why not try to create an educationalenvironment that also represents the same sort of strategy.

That’s what we try to do at Morris is tomake sure that the students understand the diverse prospective,Whether it be from other American students’ differentprospective.

or whether is it be from internationalstudents. We try to make that happen both in our classroom and theactivities that our students do on campus.

so we see it as a great opportunity torepresent the world on our campus and students as well as thefaculty and staff.

Host: so for the moment, what’s thepercentage of international students at Morris?

We have historically not have very muchinternational students on our campus but in last 5 to 10 years, wewere focus on trying to bring more international students on ourcampus.

By now we have about 4% of our studentsare international. And of those 4% maybe half of them are fromChina. So we have a good strong group of Chinese students. Some areon an exchange program, some are involved in degree seeking programwho are actually with us for 4 years.

But we really see it as an opportunity tostrengthen our university with bringing more international studentsand in particular more qualified Chinese students to ourcampus.

Host: so you mean you already have theplan to increase the recruitment of international students. Does itmean that more Chinese students will have the opportunity to studyat Morris campus?

We’re sure, hoping.

Host: what do you think about the Chinesestudents at your campus?

Guest: Well, we actually when looking attheir success grades in our classes, they haveactually most regard ourdomestic students in terms of GPA, their degree completion grades, their graduation grades and their retention grades. So we actuallyhave been very happy with the quality of these students we haverecruited from China to enroll into the University. And we havemade grate partnerships of those students, too. In fact, we justspent couples of days with the parents of those students who wentto Morris. And it hashappen forour campus as well as for the students, as well as for theirparents to the headlight relationship with us, so we are very happywith the quality of the students. The students are excellent intheir majors and they are doing very well and I think they arelearning a lot about American culture and sharing a lot of Chineseculture and perspective with our American students which wereally .

Host: Are there any difference from localstudents and students from other countries?

Answer: Ohm, probably, I mean it’sprobably different in the sense that most liberal Chinese studentscome from large area, and so coming into small towns in westernMinnesota can be sort of shock. Many of our students come from avariety places to out state of Minnesota. And not perhaps as largeas it is large cities as we find in China. So I think that has beenprobably the most important difference. And our Chinese studentshave very very good qualitative so tend to dovery well in our math, economics, commerce and management. Theytend to be here they have concentrated in. We also love when ourstudents take courses in our history, philosophy, sociality andeducation.

Host: That’s all my question. Thank youvery much.

Guest: Oh, thank you!
