业余时间做什么？
有句古谚：“只工作，不玩耍，聪明的孩子也变傻。”意思是，如果只工作 而没有时间休息的话，会让一个人变得无聊且无趣。事实证明，的确如此。
生存在这世上，为了生活，每个人都要工作，但无论你的工作是何职业，当闲下来时，不妨找些娱乐去舒缓下情绪。本文的几位主人公就想利用业
余时 间去尝试一下水上摩托艇运动……

Angela and Kate discuss the jet skiing course at the girls’ apartment
Kate : You’re back late again. 1) Crisis at the office?
Angela : Actually, I found out something really interesting about my
company today.
Kate : Oh?
Angela : Yes. Well, you know we are into 2) sporting goods ? It turns out
we are into sports training, too.
Kate : What kind of sports?
Angela : I found out today that we have jet ski training! Can you believe
it? I’d love to learn how to do that!

Kate : Wow! Me too. Whenever we watch American movies set in Florida
they’re always bombing about on those things, it looks like great fun.
But where are they going to do it? There’s no sea around here.
Angela : That’s exactly what I said. They’re doing it out of Qin Huang
Dao, so it’s not far away.
Kate : We could make a holiday of it, invite Betty and Fred. And even your
new boyfriend, Mark, he’s 3)always up for trying something new. Didn’t you
say he lived with a group of boys?

Angela : Yes, I’m sure he’d love to come, and his friends too. You know he
lives with this really traditional guy, called Tom, I think. Anyway, I was
thinking he could be a great choice for Betty,
she really needs a date!
Kate : Great plan! I would love to get away somewhere.
Angela : 4)Fabulous ! I’ll check the 5) training schedule and get it all
arranged. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

凯特 ： 我们可以把它当成度假，邀请上贝蒂和弗瑞德。还有你那个新男朋友马克，他一贯乐意尝试新事物吧。你不是说过他和一群男孩住在一起吗？

安吉拉 ： 是啊，我相信他和他的朋友们都会很高兴参加的。你知道吗，他和一个很传统的男孩住在一块，这个男孩的名字好像叫汤姆。不管怎么说，
我 在想，汤姆对贝蒂来说可能是个很好的选择。贝蒂真的需要约会了！
凯特 ： 这个计划不错，我想到远一些的地方玩玩。
安吉拉 ： 那太好了！我会查看一下训练时间表，把事情都安排好。我们肯定会玩得很开心的。
“蚕茧族”与“居住型办公室 职员”
如果有大量可自由支配的时间，多数人会选择“放松” rela x 、“娱乐” have fun 、“减 压 ” decompress 或 者 和 自
己 心 爱 的 人 呆 在一起。
不少年轻的白领选择呆在家里，独自做些事 情，最大程度地避开社交活动。他们把住所弄得跟“蚕茧”一样。这群年轻人也就是我
们所知的“蚕茧族” cocoon clan 。
“居住型办公室职员” resident of fi ce worker 多见于 I T 、“艺术设计” art design 和“传媒行 业 ”
media ， 指 的 是 年 龄 在25 到45 之 间 ，吃喝、
娱乐、运动，甚至居住都在办公室，可能是因为他们想节省生活开支，因为作为初入职场的年轻人，他们有很多东西要买， 比如寓
所或汽车等等。

Fred : Excellent idea! The funny thing is, I’m owed four days of 6) paid
holiday and if I don’t take it before next month, I’ll lose it.

Kate : What a 7) coincidence ! The good news is that it’s in Qin Huang
Dao, so we can get there really easily. Angela wants to book 8) a long
weekend off around the middle of the
month, does that suit you?
Fred : That’s perfect, actually. This month is always pretty slow and
lucky for us, the weather ’s 9) glorious .
Kate : We need to discuss it with Betty. And Angela wants to ask Mark,
too. If that’s OK with you?
Fred : Hmm...maybe this will be the perfect opportunity to set up Betty
with Mark’s housemate, Tom. Angela’s always saying what a good pair they’d
make.
